It’s good news: After winning a fierce competition, The Mixx Hair Studio in Eltingville — a salon owned by Rosemarie Baione — nabbed first place as winner of Best Hair Salon of the Year on Staten Island and took home the trophy in the first ever New York Hair and Beauty Awards organized by Creative Oceanic.
The New York Hair and Beauty Awards 2019 translates into an exclusive celebration of highly trained and talented individuals who specialize in enhancing natural features — with a goal of leaving the New Yorkers looking fabulous.
The Long Island Marriott Hotel was the setting for the trend setting event, where the “crème de la crème” of hair and beauty specialists gathered to celebrate the champions of the industry.
The winners demonstrated an outstanding performance and pushed the boundaries of fashion and trends — and they had the continuous support of their clients and the public who voted for them in order to gain the recognition they deserve.
The awards also recognized stylish and luxurious salons that combine elements of the city into their aesthetics, making clients feel welcome and eager to book their next appointment.
Katarina Los, Global Events Director of Creative Oceanic, said:
“The hair and beauty is a multi-billion dollar sector that plays a vital role in enhancing the economy. The winners reflect the creativity and talent that flows within the profession. These specialists inspire others when it comes to the big and competitive world of hair and beauty,” before adding: “It is important to acknowledge these specialists for their hard work and let them know that their dedication to making people beautiful doesn’t go unnoticed. We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their achievements and we hope that they will keep up their amazing work.”
“On behalf of myself, and my staff at In the Mixx Hair Studio, we are truly ecstatic to have won the competition for Staten Island," noted an elated Rosemarie Baione, who sits at the helm of The Mixx Hair Salon located at 3960 Richmond Ave.
She added: "Our salon possesses a relaxed, friendly, and caring atmosphere and it’s a sanctuary where our clients gather weekly to catch up on each other’s lives and unwind from the daily grind, while being serviced by friendly, knowledgeable and artistic stylists. And not only do our clients leave the salon feeling beautiful and confident about themselves, but their experience here has them returning time and time again. Needless to say, we are very humbled and proud of this accomplishment and would like to share this with our Staten Island community. "
In further speaking of her salon, the astute business entrepreneur explains In the Mixx strives to be the best and in turn they’ve established a strong client and staff bond.
“Most of our new clients come from referrals and others through social media reviews and walk-ins. Our objective is to treat each and every client who enters our salon, with a welcoming smile and to listen, discuss and deliver the very best hair color and style which makes them feel beautiful, uplifted and self-confident, at a fair price."
Rosemarie’s passion to create outstanding and unique hair color designs and styles realistically speaking began at the age of 14. Through the years she set her sights on working her way up the “corporate ladder” at several hair salons and in retail hair establishments — while at the same time pursuing her degrees until she felt confident enough to jump in and take the leap of faith in order to achieve her dream.
Her objective? To treat each and every client who enters her salon with a welcoming smile and to listen, discuss and deliver the very best hair color and style which makes them feel beautiful, uplifted and self-confident — and all at a fair price.
“As a one-woman business, I quickly learned and absorbed every aspect of the back office operations and client relations to ensure my salon would be the best on the Island. Because I love my work, I come to work every day since 2005, knowing that each day will be better than the day before, and accepting no less from my staff,” says she.
In 2005, In the Mixx opened its doors as an accredited and certified salon in Color Design hair color and Goldwell Hair color.
At the time, Rosemarie was only 23 years-old, a business and communications grad from St. John’s University and a licensed hair stylist and spokeswoman for Goldwell Hair color and products.
“We quickly became a teaching salon, periodically providing each of my stylists and other hair salons with professional development to improve their talent and keep them abreast of new techniques and precision hairstyles. And our stylists are also certified in Ouidad haircuts, catering to curly hair. They are highly qualified to provide a curl-specific angled cutting technique which removes the bulk from areas of the head to achieve a natural and care-free look,” Rosemarie points out.
Together with two extremely talented hair stylists, and a handful of new clients, including men, women and children, staffers work as a team to achieve the best experience for their clients.
“I was sure it would take some time; less than I anticipated, but I knew in my heart I would fill the other 10 stylists’ chairs with only the best in the business. Today, we proudly showcase our staff of more than 15 highly professional hair stylists, working together with the same passion to achieve our goals of providing the best experience possible for more than 6,000 clients. And we also celebrate and cater to bridal parties and groom parties on their special day," says she.
At The Mixx Studio they are happy to participate in community service efforts supporting neighborhood establishments, schools, fundraising events, etc., and to achieve positive results by helping to provide a hopeful and productive future for the next generation.
They work closely with the Transition and College Access Center of Staten Island, where they serve as a worksite participant in conjunction with New York City High Schools providing a learning and employment opportunity for graduating students to experience the field of hair artistry.
Rosemarie also mentors developmentally challenged high school students and upon graduation provides training and guidance, in addition to staff positions at her salon.
Rosemarie also works with New York City elementary, intermediate, and high schools, with fundraisers for children with disabilities and life-threatening illnesses, such as juvenile diabetes and research, drug prevention programs, empowering women’s events, religious establishments holiday fairs and golf outings and offers prom services for seniors.
“And we are extremely humbled and indebted to our clients," she said, “not only from the Tri-state area — but also beyond.”
