Miley Cyrus just ushered in the new year in classic Miley fashion: with a short and edgy new haircut. Not quite as short as her famous pixie cut, the singer just took to Instagram to debut a fresh new shag haircut and announce that new music is coming soon.
Cyrus still has bangs, but she cut the rest of her hair into a layered shag that looks edgy and cool. Until recently, her signature blonde hair was long enough to dust her shoulders.
Cyrus has never shied away from dramatic hair changes. Back in November, Cyrus had both her mom Tish and hairstylist Sally Hershberger create a punky new haircut. Hershberger told E! News at the time: "Miley wanted to go more punk. She wanted something edgy." She continued, "We went with a modern mullet that she can wear sleek, but also wavy and messy." Her latest hair transformation seems like a slightly shorter version of this exact cut. "To get the edgy look, I precise-cut her hair with a pair of scissors and then used a razor to add definition," Hershberger said.
Back in 2016, Cyrus wrote a lengthy Facebook post about the perils of bleaching your hair. "If a change is something that feels right to you - fucking DO IT! Don't over think it because in the end it is fucking hair and nothing you do is detrimental and will just be a new chapter for you ❤️ my life is done chronologically in hair styles lol !!!! 👩👧👦👵"
