Rachel Brosnahan's Hair Was Even Better From the Back at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards - Vogue

Gowns may inspire awe, but it’s the hair and makeup statements that truly complete a look on the red carpet. Tonight at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Rachel Brosnahan proved as much wearing a custom tangerine Carolina Herrera gown with swirls of deep pink eyeshadow and an ultra-modern, runway-worthy braid.

"I've been wanting to use this shade for a super long time," explains makeup artist Lisa Aharon of Brosnahan's hot fuchsia lids, which were inspired by the epic sunsets of Los Angeles. “It just felt fun." To keep attention focused on the playful eye, the pro made sure The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star’s skin was "fresh and glowing," as well as swiped on a light layer of Dior's shadow primer on the lids so the neon pigment wouldn't budge. Aharon finished off the look with a flesh-toned lipstick and a light dusting of Chantecaille's translucent pressed powder to set everything in place.

On the hair front, stylist Owen Gould slicked Brosnahan's blonde lengths into a neat center part and fastened a single plait that snaked down her back. Then, for an added twist, he wove metallic string through the braid for an architectural, heavy-metal effect. Updating a classic style with unexpected detail, Brosnahan’s cool-girl hair strategy is all the inspiration you need for a next-level beauty moment.
